The British Embassy in Berne is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy offers a friendly and supportive working environment and works across a wide range of projects and campaigns spanning event management, digital communications, public diplomacy, and media relations. Digital communications and social media support: supporting day-to-day management of Embassy social media channels with a focus on Instagram; assisting with content creation for digital campaigns including drafting copy, creating graphics and editing short-form video; monitoring social media performance and contributing to engagement reporting; researching and mapping media contacts, content creators and digital stakeholders. Event and operational communications support: providing practical support for Embassy events, visits and public diplomacy activities including logistics and delivery coordination. Media mapping and monitoring support: monitoring Swiss and Liechtenstein media coverage and contributing to internal media summaries; conducting structured media mapping exercises to identify key journalists, commentators and outlets; maintaining and updating media and stakeholder lists. Asset management and administrative support: developing and maintaining an inventory of communications and event assets; producing guidance notes for communications items; providing general administrative support including stakeholder tracking, background research, drafting support and assistance with planning documents. Excellent English and German language skills at C1 level or above (CEFR). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong social media skills across platforms including X, Facebook and LinkedIn, including knowledge of latest apps and trends. Strong organisational skills with the ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines and multi-task effectively. Experience designing visuals and graphics for social media, including photography, video editing, sound and music. Knowledge of Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Customer focus and ability to work effectively with external stakeholders. IT proficiency in MS Office. Nice to have: experience writing for professional purposes (social media posts, internal communications, research and report writing); degree-level qualification preferably in communications, marketing or a related field; experience working in an office environment in communications or marketing; knowledge of the Swiss and Liechtenstein media scene; knowledge of French. A 6-month internship at the British Embassy in Berne with a monthly allowance of 2,190 CHF. The role offers the opportunity to work in a friendly and supportive international environment across a wide array of communications projects and campaigns. The position provides exposure to digital communications, public diplomacy, event management and media relations. The Embassy promotes family-friendly flexible working opportunities where operational and security needs allow. Working hours are 40 hours per week.
