Beschreibung

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an award-winning independent think tank working to accelerate solutions for a stable climate, sustainable resource management, and fair economies. With a staff of more than 200 experts from across the globe, IISD has offices in Winnipeg, Geneva, Ottawa, and Toronto, and its work affects lives in nearly 100 countries. IISD's Geneva office hosts teams focused on Economic Law and Policy, Energy, Resilience, Communications, Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation, and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF). Depending on the team and project assigned, responsibilities may include conducting research and editing, event management, communications activities (articles, newsletters, press releases, op-eds, infographics, videos, social media management), project management support (logistics, budget tracking, reporting), and monitoring and evaluation tasks. Interns will be assigned to an IISD program staff member who will agree on internship objectives, manage workload, respond to queries, and provide feedback. Interns are expected to be present at IISD's Geneva office on a regular agreed schedule, with flexibility to accommodate academic commitments. Applicants must be enrolled in a master's level (MA, MSc, LLM, etc.) or PhD degree program at a university based in Switzerland during the internship dates, and the internship must form part of the university curriculum counting toward academic credits. Candidates must be fluent in English (speaking and writing), demonstrate excellent academic performance, and hold a valid Swiss residence permit (student B permit, regular B permit, or C permit) or Swiss citizenship. Additional advantages include relevant academic or professional experience in the chosen team's focus area, professional competence in languages beyond English (especially French or Spanish), and a written statement of support from academic supervisors or professional referees. All applications must include a cover letter and CV in English, with the cover letter specifying the preferred IISD Geneva program. IISD offers a structured autumn internship program (September to December 2026) based at its Geneva office, providing direct practical experience within a globally recognised sustainable development think tank. While the internship is unpaid, IISD provides an allowance equivalent to a monthly public transport pass in Geneva plus a per diem to cover lunchtime meal expenses. Interns gain exposure to real-world policy research and international processes, the opportunity to develop research, writing, organisational, and communications skills, and the chance to build professional networks. Excellent interns may be invited to continue on a consultancy basis after the internship concludes. IISD is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and encourages applications from historically marginalised groups.
