Beschreibung

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an award-winning independent think tank working to accelerate solutions for a stable climate, sustainable resource management, and fair economies. With a staff of more than 200 experts and offices in Winnipeg, Geneva, Ottawa, and Toronto, IISD's work affects lives in nearly 100 countries. Its Geneva office hosts teams focused on Economic Law and Policy, Energy, Resilience, Communications, Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation, and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF). This internship program is open exclusively to students enrolled at universities based in Switzerland. Responsibilities vary according to the team and project assigned but may include conducting research and editing, supporting event management and communications activities, developing outreach products (articles, newsletters, press releases, op-eds, infographics, videos), managing social media platforms, assisting with project logistics and budget monitoring, supporting monitoring and evaluation activities, and contributing to policy analysis and capacity-building work. Interns are expected to be present at IISD's Geneva office during agreed hours and will be supervised by an assigned programme staff member. Applicants must be enrolled in a master's level (MA, MSc, LLM, etc.) or Ph.D. degree programme at a university based in Switzerland during the internship dates, and the internship must form part of their university curriculum and count toward academic credits. Candidates must be fluent in English (spoken and written), demonstrate excellent academic performance, and hold a valid Swiss residence permit (student B permit, regular B permit, or C permit) or Swiss citizenship. A cover letter and CV in English are required; the cover letter must specify one IISD Geneva programme of interest. Additional advantages include relevant academic or professional experience aligned with the chosen team, proficiency in French or Spanish, and a written statement of support from academic supervisors or professional referees. IISD offers a practical learning experience within an internationally recognised sustainable development think tank in Geneva. Interns receive an allowance equal to a monthly public transport pass in Geneva and a per diem to cover lunchtime meal expenses. Working hours are flexible to accommodate academic commitments, with a minimum of 15 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during university vacations. The programme runs from September to December 2026 (minimum 3 months, maximum 4 months). Exceptional interns may be invited to continue on a consultancy basis after the internship concludes.
