WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) is a United Nations specialized agency headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The internship is hosted by the Composite Indicator Research Section within the Department for Economics and Data Analytics (DEDA), IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector (IES). WIPO's Internship Program provides opportunities for interns to complement their educational experience and develop professional skills in an international context, with learning through experience, mentoring, and structured courses. The intern will contribute to the work on the Global Innovation Index (GII) and the measurement of investment in intangible assets. Specific tasks include: providing analytical inputs and contributing to the production of the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2027 and the World Intangible Investment Highlights (WIIH) 2027 reports; supporting data visualization and preparing content for social media and the WIPO website under editorial guidance; assisting with the organization of events related to the two publications, including preparing presentations, talking points, and background materials; and performing other related tasks such as logistical and administrative support (e.g., drafting invitations, coordinating event logistics). Education (Essential): Advanced university degree (master's level) in economics, data science, or a related field. Experience (Essential): Experience using specialized software and programming languages for statistical/econometric analysis, in particular R and/or Python. Skills (Essential): Familiarity with modern data visualization tools with interest in further developing these skills. Skills (Desirable): Knowledge of applied economics and/or innovation economics; experience drafting content for social media and web use; sound judgement and integrity; strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment. Language (Essential): Excellent written and spoken English. Language (Desirable): Knowledge of other official UN languages is an advantage. Eligibility: Category II — individuals pursuing their first advanced degree who have completed coursework but not the final thesis, individuals pursuing a subsequent university degree, or individuals who obtained their most recent advanced degree less than two years before the application date. A monthly stipend of CHF 2,170 (based on full-time, 40 hours per week). Medical insurance, annual leave, and sick leave benefits are provided. The internship runs for a minimum of 6 months, renewable up to a maximum of 12 months. The position is based at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and cannot be carried out remotely. The intern will benefit from technical supervision, mentoring, and exposure to working in a United Nations common system organization.
