About
The EU Delegation to Switzerland and Liechtenstein offers two funded traineeships for young graduates within its Political, Press and Information Section (PPI). The traineeships are part of the EU's programme to provide early-career graduates with hands-on experience in international relations and EU diplomacy. One traineeship focuses on social media, press and analysis; the other focuses on Switzerland's and Liechtenstein's EU policy and domestic politics. The Delegation represents EU interests and values in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Traineeship 1 (Social Media, Press and Analysis): Support public diplomacy activities including social media campaigns and public events; monitor and analyse the public debate through regular annotated press reviews; monitor political developments in Switzerland and Liechtenstein (parliamentary sessions, popular votes, elections); analyse Switzerland's and Liechtenstein's foreign policy and positions in international fora; participate in meetings and conferences. Traineeship 2 (EU Policy and Domestic Politics): Support the Delegation with research and analysis on Switzerland's and Liechtenstein's EU policy and domestic politics; draft reports and briefings on EU policy priorities; monitor and analyse current affairs including social and economic policy developments; prepare, participate in, and follow up on meetings with Member States and stakeholders; contribute to social media and public diplomacy activities.
Candidates must have less than one year of professional experience after graduation at the time of signing the traineeship agreement (traineeships, student jobs, or volunteering during or after university are not counted as professional experience). A bachelor's degree in political sciences, economics, or law is required; a master's degree is an asset. Advanced studies in political science, international relations, economics, European Law or other relevant fields are valued. Good knowledge of EU-Swiss political and economic relations and European institutions is required. Language requirements: for the social media/press traineeship, excellent knowledge of German and English (C1) and good knowledge of French; for the EU policy/domestic politics traineeship, very good knowledge of German and English and good knowledge of French. Candidates must comply with general eligibility criteria under Article 8 of Decision ADMIN(2017)28 on paid traineeships.
Two funded traineeships of 6 months each (2026/2027) within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, with a planned start date of 1 October 2026. Each selected trainee receives a monthly grant to cover living expenses. The traineeships provide exposure to EU diplomacy, international relations, and the day-to-day work of a diplomatic mission. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews. All travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation costs are borne by the trainee.
