The British Embassy in Berne is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests. The Embassy works across a wide range of policy, communications, and public diplomacy initiatives in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Digital communications and social media support: supporting day-to-day management of the Embassy's social media channels (with focus on Instagram), assisting with content creation for digital campaigns including drafting copy, creating graphics and editing short-form video, monitoring social media performance and contributing to engagement reporting, and researching relevant media contacts and digital stakeholders. Event and operational communications support: providing practical support for Embassy events, visits, and public diplomacy activities including logistics and coordination. Media mapping and monitoring: monitoring Swiss and Liechtenstein media coverage, contributing to internal media summaries, conducting structured media mapping exercises, and maintaining media and stakeholder lists. Asset management and administrative support: developing and maintaining an inventory of communications and event assets, producing guidance notes for communications items, and providing general administrative support to the Communications Team including stakeholder tracking, background research, drafting support, and planning assistance. Essential: Excellent English and German language skills (C1 level or above under CEFR). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong social media skills across platforms (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) including knowledge of latest trends and apps. Strong organisational skills with ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines and multitask effectively. Experience designing visuals and graphics for social media, including photography, video editing, sound and music. Knowledge of Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Customer focus and ability to work effectively with external stakeholders. IT proficiency (MS Office). Desirable: Experience writing for professional purposes (social media posts, internal communications, research and report writing). Degree-level qualification, preferably in communications, marketing or a related field. Experience working in an office environment, particularly in communications or marketing. Knowledge of the Swiss and Liechtenstein media scene. Knowledge of French. Candidates must have pre-existing work authorisation for Switzerland. Full-time, 6-month internship contract of 40 hours per week. Gross monthly stipend of CHF 2,190. Annual leave entitlement of 25 days per year (increasing to 30 days over 5 years), plus 13 Swiss/UK public holidays per year. Embassy opening hours: Monday to Thursday 07:30–18:30, Friday 07:30–13:30.
